Have you ever seen the price of something in an independent High Street shop and thought ‘I could get that cheaper elsewhere’?
Yes, its most likely that you have, just like the rest of us. Most likely the cheaper place is a huge retailer with hundreds of stores across the Country.
Have you also noticed the recent closure of lots of independent High Street retailers, leaving empty boarded up shop spaces and making your High Street look empty and run down?
Have you ever put the two together?
Well, now you have.
Independent businesses are regular people with bills to pay, mouths to feed and a life to lead. They work hard, to provide for themselves and their families.
Whilst it is not a crime to want to get the best deal for your money, it is important to remember that whilst you are paying less for an item with a bigger retailer; you are paying for another holiday home for the director in a stunning location, whilst the unique and interesting independent shops are struggling to make their wage. The item is cheaper in the larger retail stores for a reason, because they can afford the lower profit margin with hundreds of thousands of sales an hour, creating an hourly sum which is larger than the average salary per year.
So why not give back to your local community and spend that extra few quid for an item knowing that you have made a contribution to helping keeping the smaller, more individual, quirky businesses open.
A little goes a long way. So remember – Shop Local!
